In the spirit of musical exploration and just downright fun we took to the stage over a decade ago and let the magic unfold. Every single week since then we have been using this space to reinvigorate old arrangements and cook up new ones, often on the spot!

As the name implies, the band originated musically within the soul tradition of Motown, which has in its own way become a sort of a genre synonymous with black American soul and funk music from the 60s and 70s. Think Stevie Wonder, The Temptations, Gladys Knight, Marvin Gaye, and motown adjacent artists like Aretha Franklin. But Motown, to us, extended to far beyond just the 60s and 70s, and even transcended genre. It became to represent soulfulness in musical form; a search for the good stuff in every soaring lyric, backbeat and ripping solo.

With collective musical background ranging from Jazz and Salsa music to Gospel and Rock and Roll, we brought something truly unique to the stage, building a band, a brand and an idea that kept us and our loyal fans coming back for more week after week. The Throwdown evolved into something much more than just a Motown band playing soul music from the 70s. This is music that resonates deep within us, it has become a part of who we are, and we want to share it with you.

Our repertoire has also expanded far beyond the limits of what is technically “Motown.” It has come to represent to us a certain mindset, a freedom, and an enthusiasm through which we approach material, whether it be todays top 40, or some of your favorite classic rock hits (think Led Zeppelin or The Beatles).

We want to take you on a journey.

Important to know that this environment is entirely relaxed and super family friendly. Our approach to every single event is different, and our approach here is different from how we would treat a wedding or a corporate event, for example. But not matter the event, we want to transport our guests and fans to a place they never expected going. Our weekly gig at the Pour House, despite being in the middle of the day (1:30-4:30 every Sunday), invariably turns into a great big dance party. It’s a blast. It’s our church.
